Ficus umbrellata

$16.98

Plant Pot Size: 1 Quart (13cm / 5.1")

Ficus umbellata is a lesser-known species of ficus. It is native to West Africa but especially popular in Japan, where it is found in many homes. The huge leaves and whimsical appearance have earned it the common name “umbrella tree fig.” Although it can reach a towering height of 12 feet tall, as a houseplant, it usually only grows about 4 feet tall and wide.. Not pet friendly.

  • What To Due Upon Arrival

When your new plant arrives, we have a few recommendations: first, immediately open the box, remove the plant from the box, remove the protective sleeve, and water the well. Allow your new friend to acclimate to its new environment for a few weeks before you repot it.

  • Planting and Care

A sand dune in the desert with a blue sky in the background.

With few exceptions, most people want to put their new plant in a beautiful new pot. Here are a few tips for the majority of plants ( unless otherwise noted).

    * When your plant arrives, wait a few weeks to allow it to acclimate. This will mitigate the shock.

    * When it is time to replant, use a good quality soil. One that is low in peat and high in perlite is suggested. I recommend Purple Cow Potting Soil.

*When removing from the grow pot, be sure to open the roots  up so they can expand in there new pot.

    * Be sure to not plant too deep. Leave 1/4" of the top of soil the plant is growing in above the new soil line. This will prevent soil accumulating around the stems and suffocation.

    * Water deeply. Remember that this watering is not just for drinking , but to eliminate air pockets.

    * Use a water soiable fertilizer every 2 weeks ( unless stated otherwise).
